Korle Klottey MP Elected 2nd Vice President of Pan-African Parliament

Ghana’s representation on the continental stage has received a significant boost following the election of Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for the Klottey Korle Constituency, as the Second Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament.

The election, held during an extraordinary session of the Parliament in Midrand, South Africa, saw Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings secure a decisive victory, polling 131 votes against 51. The strong margin reflects broad confidence and support from lawmakers across the African continent.

Her elevation to this high-ranking position marks a historic and symbolic moment for Ghana and the West African caucus, particularly in advancing female leadership within continental governance structures.

The Pan-African Parliament, an organ of the African Union, serves as a platform for promoting African integration, cooperation, and democratic governance among member states. As Second Vice President, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings will be part of the bureau responsible for guiding the Parliament’s activities, shaping policy direction, and strengthening its legislative and advisory roles. Her election is expected to enhance Ghana’s voice in key continental discussions, particularly in areas such as governance, youth empowerment, gender equity, and regional development. Analysts say her leadership could contribute to strengthening democratic institutions and fostering deeper collaboration among African nations.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings, a medical doctor and seasoned legislator, has served as MP for Klottey Korle since 2017 and has built a reputation in parliamentary diplomacy and advocacy. Her new role further cements her growing influence in African politics and underscores Ghana’s continued prominence in Pan-African affairs.

This milestone not only highlights her personal achievement but also signals a broader shift toward inclusive and dynamic leadership within Africa’s top governance institutions.
